NCLEX & HESI Exit Exam
NCLEX and HESI Exit Exams cover the same information, so you can study for them the same way. That’s why there’s really only one “official” HESI Exit Exam book (created by the makers of the HESI exam). But really, any good NCLEX review book can help you prepare for HESI, too. The Reviews and Rationales series is my hands-down favorite, and it’s what I use when quizzing my private tutoring students. Be careful with the Saunders series…I haven’t reviewed them all, but the ones I’ve previously used often seem like the practice questions are too easy. Regardless, they can be a good supplement for your review!
Study Guides by Topic
I LOVE the Reviews and Rationales series. I feel like it offers a difficulty level that is closer to NCLEX compared to some of the other review books available. Plus, almost all of them are available as audiobooks, so you can get two free audio study books to listen to in the car or on the go!
Other Helpful Resources
Test-taking strategy, dosage calculations books, prioritization/delegation questions, alternate format questions…if you need extra practice in a specific area, then these some of my favorite books that I’ve used with tutoring students.
HESI A2 (Admission Exam)
Way back when I started Your Nursing Tutor, there was only one single, lonely HESI A2 review book…and it wasn’t very good. Now, years later, the publishers have caught up and there are a ton of options! But while HESI A2 Admission Exam review books can be helpful for refreshing your knowledge of a subject, remember that you can also reference your textbooks for biology, A&P, math, chemistry, or any other topical textbook that you have available.
