How does online tutoring compare to in-person tutoring?
Online tutoring is simple, convenient, and as effective as in-person tutoring. You need access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection, a webcam, a microphone (built-in to the computer or webcam is fine) and headphones. Since I typically use Google Hangout for our online classroom, you will also need to create a free Google+/Gmail account if you don’t already have one.
Ten minutes before our scheduled appointment, I will send you an email invitation containing the link to our Google Hangout. Click the link and follow the on-screen instructions to login. You might be prompted to install some software if it’s your first time using Google Hangout. We will be able to see and hear each other in real-time, just as if we were face to face. I also will provide you with my personal cellphone number in case you ever have difficulty accessing the online classroom and need to call me for assistance.
What subjects can you tutor?
I am able to tutor on almost any subject or exam associated with nursing school, including (but not limited to): Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, Mother/Baby, Pediatrics, Psychiatric, Pharmacology, Care Plans, and Dosage calculations. I can also provide tutoring for nursing pre-requisite classes, including (but not limited to): Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Microbiology. In addition, I also have experience tutoring for NCLEX and HESI exams.
If the specific topic you want tutoring for is not listed, that does not mean I don’t offer it. Please fill out the tutoring application below and inquire.
What is a typical tutoring experience like?
I personalize the tutoring experience for every student I work with, but this is a general idea of what you can expect. After I review your tutoring application and decide if we would be a good match for tutoring, then I will email you to discuss scheduling your first session.
If you want tutoring for a very specific topic, such as dosage calculations or preparing for a specific class test, then we can probably jump right to that topic during our first tutoring session and proceed from there.
However, depending on the complexity of your situation, I will usually use the first session as an “assessment session.” We will get acquainted, I will assess your strengths and weaknesses, knowledge level, and test-taking strategy. This process gives me a better idea of what your needs are. By the end of the assessment appointment, you will walk away with a clear understanding of some steps you should take in order to reach your goals.
Within 24-48 hours of our assessment session, I will email you a follow-up report summarizing what we discussed and outlining my recommendations. I will also provide any relevant Your Nursing Tutor handouts or references that I think will be helpful for you.
At that point, you can choose to schedule another tutoring session, or use my recommendations to continue studying on your own. There is never any pressure or obligation to continue with tutoring. If you do choose to continue with tutoring, then each session will continue to be customized to your needs. I will also be available to answer your questions via email for as long as you are an active tutoring student with me.
How much does tutoring cost?
Private tutoring with Your Nursing Tutor costs $75 USD per hour. After you schedule a session, you will receive a Paypal invoice via email with the date and time we agreed upon. Payment is due at least 48-hours prior to the scheduled session in order to reserve your appointment.
Most tutoring sessions will be 2-hours long ($150). 1-hour sessions ($75) are sometimes available for established students who want to practice NCLEX-style questions.
I’m interested in tutoring. What do I do next?
The next step is to complete and submit the Tutoring Application form found below. Submission of this application does not require you to purchase tutoring services, and it is not a guarantee that you will receive tutoring services.
You will receive an email response from me within a week. Depending on your situation, I may need to ask a few additional questions at that time. If you have any relevant score reports (such as for NCLEX or HESI), then you can expedite the review process by sending your test results as an email attachment to Nicole@YourNursingTutor.com. Please make sure to include your name in that email so that I know whose application the reports belong with.
